Republicans Accuse FBI of Withholding Information on Joe Biden

House Republicans are accusing the FBI in breach of a subpoena by withholding a document allegedly related to an alleged Biden ‘bribery’ case, citing concerns about the safety of the original informant, despite the redaction of names.

A highly credible informant alleged that an FD-1023 memo from 2020 includes details provided by a generously paid FBI source.  The memo purportedly outlines a monetary transaction of $5 million in exchange for policy actions involving former Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign citizen.

Despite the House Oversight Committee being given permission to view a partially censored edition of the FD-1023 document, House Republicans remain unsatisfied. They are now pursuing contempt of Congress charges against FBI Director Chris Wray. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed concerns about whistleblower safety, stating that informants fear for their lives due to potential government retaliation.

Greene also says that the alleged money exchange involved Ukraine and took place seven years ago. She criticized the FBI for refusing to hand over the document, even though the names of the informant and whistleblower were redacted.

Greene directly accused Director Wray of shielding Biden by withholding the document, emphasizing the political nature of the Department of Justice. She argued that the document’s information poses significant security risks and demanded that the unclassified document be released.

The Republicans issued a subpoena for the FD-1023 form, setting a deadline for Director Wray to provide the unredacted document by May 30. However, Wray failed to comply with the deadline, leading to the contempt of Congress charges.

After reviewing the document, Representative Comer said that its accusations suggest a pattern of bribery consistent with the committee’s previous findings.

The FBI defended its actions, stating that it has accommodated the committee’s request by providing access to the document in a secure reading room at the US Capitol. They argued that the redactions were necessary to protect the physical safety of sources and the integrity of investigations, dismissing the escalation to a contempt vote as unwarranted.

The White House dismissed the Republican-led investigation as unfounded and politically motivated.
