Two Brothers Die in Cliff Diving Accident

Two brothers tragically lost their lives in a cliff diving accident at Fort Gibson Lake, Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to an emergency call on Friday, June 9, regarding a suspected drowning event at the lake. Initial investigations indicate that of the three individuals who dove into the water from the Rocky Point location, only one surfaced.

The ill-fated brothers were among a group of four who had been enjoying a cliff-diving excursion when they were caught in a sudden storm. The abrupt gusts of wind and surging waves severely hampered their ability to safely exit the water.

In a heroic effort, 16-year-old Kalub Mayton returned to the water to assist his imperiled brother but was tragically unable to save either his brother or himself.

Following the incident, a team of experienced divers conducted a comprehensive search, eventually discovering the bodies of Kalub and his older brother Damian Mayton in 12 feet of water on the morning of Saturday, June 10.

Both Damian, 19, a graduate from Fort Gibson Public Schools in 2022, and Kalub, a present student, were treasured in their community. The school district communicated their heartfelt condolences via a Facebook post, underlining the significance of reminiscing about the shared experiences with the two brothers.

The brothers called the town of Okay, located 50 miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma, home.
