A 23-year-old woman died on Saturday evening after jumping from a building in lower Manhattan, according to a report from the New York Police Department.
At approximately 5:11 pm on Saturday, June 3, law enforcement responded to a distress call about an unconscious woman who had fallen from a building at 39 Walker Street in Tribeca. Emergency services transported her to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition but she was later pronounced dead, as per police officials.
Sources indicated that the young woman, whose identity has yet to be disclosed pending family notification, exhibited unusual behavior before leaping from the fourth-floor window. While visiting New York City from out of town, she reportedly made a stop at the Bortolami art gallery, which occupies the first two floors of the five-story building on Walker Street in Tribeca.
Instead of staying within the confines of the gallery, a source reported that she ascended to the fourth floor and abruptly jumped out of a window, landing in the backyard. According to the source, the woman behaved erratically, tearing down the blinds, forcefully opening the window, and leaping out.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the motivations behind her tragic fall remain unclear. Witnesses reported a significant presence of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel at the scene.
Saturdays are typically peak days for the gallery, during which visitors are allowed to freely move from the first to the second floor via an open hallway. However, access to the fourth floor, where two-bedroom apartments valued at $2.5 million are located, is usually restricted.
One resident expressed their distress over the incident, saying they were unable to sleep the previous night due to recurring thoughts of someone leaping from the building.
