Bombings Target 3 Businesses in Washington DC

In a series of early morning attacks on Sunday, July 2, three businesses in Washington, DC were targeted with explosive devices and a Molotov cocktail.

The attacks happened within a 15-minute period and targeted a Truist Bank, a Nike outlet, and a Safeway grocery store. Notably, the Nike store is located only a few blocks from the US Supreme Court and Capitol buildings.

The series of attacks began at 4:30 a.m. with an explosion near an ATM at the Truist Bank. Shortly afterward, at 4:36 a.m., a second explosion occurred in front of the Nike store on H Street. The last of these attacks took place at 4:45 a.m. when a Molotov cocktail-like device was thrown through a window at the Safeway store on 40th Street.

Despite the potentially dangerous nature of these attacks, no injuries were reported as no one was present at the businesses at the time of the incidents. Metro police have stated that the attacks seem to have been aimed at the properties rather than individuals. At the time of reporting, no further details about the suspect or a potential motive have been released.

The Metro Police, in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, are carrying out an investigation into the incidents. The DC police have announced a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
