In a distressing incident at a dog park, a miniature dachshund named Lola and her owner, bodybuilder Isabelle Payne, narrowly escaped a tragic fate when they were viciously attacked by a larger bull terrier.
The unprovoked assault on the Gold Coast in Australia occurred just weeks before Payne’s scheduled wedding, adding to the already heightened emotional stress. Accompanied by her fiancé Jacob Thirkettle, Payne and pet Lola were enjoying a day at the off-leash park when the incident unfolded.
Both Payne and Lola sustained severe injuries in the attack. Payne, exhibiting remarkable bravery, suffered bruises, scratches, and bite wounds as she fought to save her beloved pet. With their wedding looming, Thirkettle took to GoFundMe, creating a campaign to gather funds for Lola’s veterinary expenses.
Expressing gratitude, Thirkettle thanked the compassionate individuals who came to their aid, ensuring Lola’s survival. Following the assault, Lola was promptly taken to the vet, where she underwent surgery to mend the lacerations on her back and near her ribcage. Although Lola’s operation went well, her recovery journey is still ahead, necessitating further medical attention and ongoing treatment.
The couple’s GoFundMe campaign surpassed its initial target of $2,000, with generous Australians contributing $520 more. Overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, Payne and Thirkettle expressed their profound appreciation for the donations and kind messages they received. They also shared an update on Lola’s progress through an Instagram video.
