Startling discoveries have been made in Florida and Texas over the past week, with law enforcement officials finding suitcases containing human remains.
The Delray Beach Police Department in Florida received a call on Friday, July 21, about a suspicious suitcase floating in the Intracoastal Waterway. On examination, the suitcase was found to contain dismembered human remains, as did two other suitcases located in the vicinity.
While the investigation is still in its infancy, the remains have been preliminarily identified as those of an adult female. Based on the remains, police have released computer-generated images of what the woman looked like, in the hopes that she can be identified.
“These reconstructed images aren’t an exact likeness,” said Delray Beach Police Sgt. Casey Kelly in a videotaped press update on Wednesday. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide, though they have yet to disclose further details.
Simultaneously, in Texas, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a suspicious object on a property on July 20. Deputies responding to the call discovered a duffel bag containing partial human remains. The crime scene suggested a possible homicide, Sheriff Javier Salazar acknowledged during a press briefing.
Investigators noted evidence of attempted burning in the vicinity. It remains uncertain whether the person was killed at the location or if the body was transported there post-mortem.
These grim discoveries have shocked both communities. Investigations are underway to decipher the events leading to these incidents. Identifying the victims and apprehending the culprits remain top priorities.
Authorities urge the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigations in Florida and Texas.
