A terrifying scene was captured by a bystander’s cell phone on a southbound Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) train and has since been circulated on social media.
The incident unfolded near Eglinton Station on Thursday, July 6, at around 12:20 pm when a man was brutally stabbed in a packed train car.
The footage reveals two men engaging in a violent altercation. One, wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts, is seen grappling with the other, clad in a gray GAP hoodie and carrying a green backpack. As they scuffle, a knife becomes visible in the hand of the latter. In a shocking turn, the man in the sweatshirt stabs his opponent, leaving a blood-soaked shirt and panicked passengers in his wake.
As the victim attempts to flee, cries of “Help! Help!” are heard throughout the car. A bystander’s voice rings out, “He’s stabbing him up! He’s killing him!” Another pleads, “Oh my God, I can’t get off the train!”
When the train arrived at the station, the assailant made his escape. He has since been captured and identified as Moses Lewin, 25, with no fixed address. He is wanted for attempted murder, Toronto police said in a news release on Friday. He is also wanted for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was rushed to a trauma center in critical condition with multiple stab wounds but has since been stabilized.
Toronto Police spokesperson Duty Inspector Michelle Olszevski informed the public that the attack followed an argument between the two men, describing it as an “isolated incident.”
Toronto Police Chief, Myron Demkiw expressed his concern over the incident, tweeting his relief that the victim’s condition has improved.
