Authorities in Waldorf, Maryland, recently announced that they have charged a man with murder following the death of a woman who was struck by a stolen forklift.
The incident unfolded around noon on Sunday, July 2. Officers from the sheriff’s office responded to a reported burglary and theft in progress at a Lowe’s store located on Crain Highway in Waldorf. Investigators say a male suspect forcibly entered the store and made off with a forklift. He then proceeded to the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot on Jefferson Farm Place, where the situation tragically escalated.
Reports suggest that Gloristine Pinkney, a 73-year-old resident of Waldorf, was sleeping inside her vehicle when the suspect rammed it with the stolen forklift. Startled and in fear for her life, Pinkney quickly exited the car and attempted to escape on foot. However, the assailant pursued her in the forklift, striking and running over the defenseless victim, leading to her tragic death.
Diane Richardson, spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, expressed her shock at the bizarre incident and said that they are trying to piece things together to understand why the suspect committed the crime.
Following the brutal act, the suspect took Pinkney’s car and fled the scene. However, detectives traced critical leads and later identified Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, a 20-year-old Waldorf resident, as the prime suspect. Investigators found the victim’s vehicle near the suspect’s house, leading to his arrest later that night.
There is no evidence that the victim and suspect knew each other. “This appears to be a random attack,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson commented.
Brown now faces multiple charges, including theft, first- and second-degree murder, assault, and other related offenses. He is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
