A husband and father is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting his wife to death and severely injuring their daughter.
The incident took place in Adelaide, Australia. Authorities received reports of gunfire in the suburban area around 1:20 pm on Saturday, July 15, leading to their immediate intervention.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the wife, Aleksandra Vergulis, 51, and their daughter, Daniela Vergulis, 22, lying in the driveway with gunshot wounds. Aleksandra had already succumbed to her injuries when the authorities arrived. Daniela was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Following the incident, the suspect, Vasilis Vergulis, 51, barricaded himself inside the house, resulting in a standoff with officers. Negotiations lasted for over three hours before Vasilis eventually surrendered.
The police have formally charged Vergulis with murder and attempted murder. He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face these charges.
