The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has revealed the cause of death for Lisa Marie Presley.
Presley passed away at the age of 54 due to complications related to a small bowel obstruction.
The medical examiner’s report explains that the obstruction, which later strangulated her small bowel, was brought about by adhesions resulting from bariatric surgery that Lisa Marie had undergone years earlier. Dr. Juan Carrillo, the Deputy Medical Examiner, stated that this is a known long-term risk associated with such surgeries.
Her death on January 12 sparked considerable family tensions, particularly regarding control over her trust. Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie’s 78-year-old mother, aimed to position Riley Keough, Lisa Marie’s daughter, as the main trustee. This move provoked disagreements and legal challenges to a 2016 trust amendment which removed Priscilla as a co-trustee.
Despite the discord, insiders maintained that Lisa Marie wanted her children to inherit her legacy. Joel Weinshaker, managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, confirmed this, asserting that Lisa Marie had clearly communicated her intentions to her children, Riley and Benjamin Keough. Following a settlement in June, Riley was appointed as the sole trustee of her mother’s estate.
The tragic news of Lisa Marie’s death came just two days after she appeared at the 2023 Golden Globe Award with her mother and actor Austin Butler. A memorial service was held on January 22 at Graceland, where many attended to pay their respects.
