Ohio University Student Found Dead in Quarry

A mystery continues to surround the death of a 25-year-old graduate student at Ohio State University, who had been missing since June 10 and whose remains were discovered on July 12.

Columbus police have been investigating the enigmatic death of Amina Alhaj-Omar, a 25-year-old graduate student from Ohio State University. Alhaj-Omar’s remains were found in water in a remote section of a quarry, not far from a BP gas station where she had last been spotted. Her abandoned car, bearing some damage, was also discovered in the area.

Authorities have been piecing together a puzzle with few clues since her disappearance. The Columbus Dispatch reported that her relatives previously mentioned police suspecting Alhaj-Omar might have ventured into the quarry pond. Evidence found on-site included her jacket, shoes, and cell phone.

In a profound obituary, Alhaj-Omar’s family conveyed their immeasurable sorrow at her loss but expressed gratitude for the privilege of knowing and cherishing her kind and radiant spirit over her lifetime. The Ohio State alumna, who had completed her undergraduate degree in criminology, was in the midst of advanced studies in social work.

Sergeant Joe Albert revealed at a press conference that surveillance video from the nearby BP gas station showed Alhaj-Omar in the store at around 4:30 a.m. She was seen holding two kitchen knives and then departing around 6 a.m. The ongoing police investigation continues to probe the perplexing circumstances surrounding Alhaj-Omar’s death.
