Texas Girl Accidentally Shoots Mother

A teen girl was arrested after unintentionally shooting her 50-year-old mother in the head using a .40 caliber handgun.

Crystal Lissette Mar was arrested on July 8 and is facing charges of aggravated assault on a family member with a deadly weapon.

In the early hours of July 8, a 911 call alerted authorities to a shooting incident at a residence on Hibiscus Lane in Laredo, Texas. The victim, who happened to be the caller, informed emergency services about the accidental shooting by her daughter.

Emergency medical personnel provided immediate aid to the conscious and communicative mother before transporting her to the Laredo Medical Center for further treatment.

During questioning, the mother related that her daughter arrived at the house around 3 am, requesting to borrow her phone. She had left her own phone in her friend’s car. At this point, the mother noticed what she thought to be a handgun in her daughter’s purse. Worried for their safety, she asked that the firearm be removed from the house and the bullets be unloaded.

As the daughter tried to unload the weapon, she faced difficulties in removing the magazine. Despite successfully detaching the magazine, the gun accidentally discharged. Realizing she had been shot, the mother quickly dialed 911.

The daughter escaped from the scene following the 911 call but was later apprehended by police two blocks away. When arrested, she still held the magazine, and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was recovered by the police.

During the police investigation, the daughter confessed her lack of knowledge regarding firearms. She explained that she had tried to show her mother the gun was unloaded by removing the magazine, inadvertently pressing the trigger and discharging a bullet.

Currently, Mar is held in Laredo County Jail on a bond of $30,000.
