Texas Woman Killed in a Road Rage Shooting

A 37-year-old woman has been killed in an incident in Texas, believed to be linked to road rage.

The incident took place when the woman’s husband, who was driving their minivan, engaged in an altercation with another driver.

The husband, Zane Jones told NBC 5 news on  Tuesday morning that he and his wife were driving behind someone driving too slow in the right lane and he used the left lane to pass. He said another car drove up close to their back bumper.

“As I was passing that car, another car behind me sped up, going like 90 mph, and was like on my bumper. So I completed the pass, moved over to the right lane and the other car sped up to me and almost like crashed into my car, got very close and then backed away. And I flipped them off,” said Jones. He said his wife had always told him never to flip people off because you never know what can happen.

According to the husband, he made a gesture toward the other driver, who retaliated by firing several gunshots at their vehicle. The victim, identified as Paola Nunez Linares, was rushed to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.

The Hurst Police Department responded to a distress call around 9:15 pm on Monday, July 10. Emergency services arrived at the scene, located in the 1400 block of West Hurst Boulevard, where they found Linares in critical condition. She was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas and was pronounced dead on July 11, at around 2 am.

Authorities have revealed that Jones informed investigators that their maroon 2017 KIA minivan was traveling north on East Loop 820 when they became embroiled in a road rage incident with another vehicle. The suspected shooter’s vehicle was described as a small, dark-colored, older-model car.

The Hurst Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
