On Monday, July 10, three people allegedly committed suicide in NYC, each being hit by a subway train, at different locations in Manhattan.

The tragic sequence began early in the morning, around 8 am, at the East 86th Street station. Colin Murphy, a 47-year-old man, leapt in front of an oncoming 6 train on the downtown line. His death was pronounced at the scene.

In a second incident, Samuel Cohen, a 22-year-old man, was struck by a downtown 2 train at the West 72nd Street station around 10 am. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services who transported him to Mount Sinai West Hospital, he did not survive. Although it’s unclear whether Cohen jumped intentionally or climbed down onto the tracks earlier, police are treating the case as a suicide.

Later in the evening, at approximately 6:39 pm, Anthony Collado, 42, committed suicide at the Lexington Avenue/63rd Street station, jumping in front of an uptown Q train. Authorities confirmed Collado’s death on-site.

Presently, investigations are ongoing as officials strive to understand the circumstances leading up to these devastating incidents.

In 2022, the subway tracks saw 1,364 incidents, 88 of which were fatalities.
