Two men were killed and another was arrested following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Virginia, according to a report from the Virginia State Police.
The accident happened around 4:45 am on July 5 in Stafford County. Based on a July 6 Facebook post, police arrived at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision at the 136-mile marker.
The State Police reported that a tractor-trailer carrying a hefty load of 78,000 pounds of beer was traveling northbound when it tried to change lanes. A local news outlet stated that while in the middle lane, the truck veered to the right and collided with a 2014 Nissan Altima. The impact forced the truck and the Nissan to the left, where they struck a 2010 Subaru Forester.
All three vehicles skidded off the left side of I-95 and crashed into the guardrail. Tragically, the tractor-trailer flipped over onto the two other vehicles, leading to the deaths of the Nissan driver, Johnathon Booth 50, and the Subaru driver, Kevin Paddeu, 67.
Wheelman G. Andrews, 58, the driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. He was later taken into custody, charged with reckless driving and released on bond. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
There was a closure of nearly five hours of the interstate’s northbound lanes while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
The Virginia State Police have asked any witnesses of the crash to come forward and share information.
Stafford County, where the accident occurred, is situated about 45 miles southwest of Washington, DC.
