A 35-year-old woman was fatally shot in a chilling act of domestic violence in Graymoor-Devondale, Louisiana.
Ashley Yates, the victim, was leaving work on the evening of June 30 when she was shot multiple times. Bystanders found her outside a store in Westport Village around 8 pm and administered first aid before she was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital. Despite concerted medical efforts, Yates succumbed to her injuries.
Police Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed that the shooting was the result of a domestic violence situation.
Yates’ brother, Andrew Thompson, revealed that she had faced threats in the past but found herself trapped in a cycle, repeatedly returning to her assailant. Thompson expressed his belief that the suspect had deliberately waited for Yates, having knowledge of her location and work schedule. In a heartbreaking statement, he emphasized that the person responsible would be held accountable by a higher power.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, took his own life the following day. This led authorities to close the case. The community, shocked by this violent incident, has rallied to support Yates’ family. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to cover her funeral expenses. Loved ones described the victim as a beautiful soul who was deeply devoted to her faith. Her unwavering positivity and infectious laughter touched everyone around her.
