16 Dead, 36 Injured in Bus and Truck Collision

On the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway near the border of the states of Oaxaca and Puebla in Mexico, a tragic collision took place between a bus and a trailer truck on August 22. The bus was transporting a total of 52 individuals, including both locals and migrants.

The aftermath of the collision witnessed 16 fatalities: eight men and eight women, including a minor, and a Venezuelan. Hospitals in Puebla treated 36 injured passengers.

The 52 passengers included 10 passengers from Venezuela who were hoping to gain legal entry to the United States.

While the precise cause of this tragic accident is still under investigation by Oaxaca’s Prosecutor’s Office, Governor Salomón Jara Cruz of Oaxaca shared words of condolences and support on social media. 

To assist the affected, Puebla’s interior ministry is collaborating closely with various government agencies.
