A 76-year-old suspect has been charged with aggravated manslaughter on an elderly person after allegedly having a fight with a man at a golf course.

The altercation resulted in the death of Dean William Zook, 87. The incident occurred on June 28 at the Glenview Country Club in The Villages in central Florida, initiated by a car accident.

Zook had accidentally hit a car, leading Robert Edward Moore Jr. to believe it was his own. A bystander described a white male approaching Zook about the collision. The discussion became heated, culminating in a physical altercation, with Moore punching Zook in the jaw with a closed fist.

Following the confrontation, Zook showed signs of distress and was later diagnosed with internal brain injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on July 16. Moore was identified as the primary suspect after investigators found a golf article featuring him from November 2022 where he wore the same clothing. Moore, during questioning, indicated he believed Zook was attempting to leave without resolving the accident. He is currently detained at the Sumter County Detention Center with a bond set at $30,000.

Zook passed away one day before his 88th birthday.
