Brother of Football Star Allegedly Planned School Shootings

Dennis “DJ” Hernandez, the brother of the late football icon and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, was recorded in a video engaging in a heated interaction with Connecticut police officers.

The event occurred during attempts to detain him for supposedly conspiring to shootings at two college campuses.

Fox 61 shared the video showing officers encircling Hernandez outside his Bristol residence on July 19. Ignoring the orders to surrender, Hernandez screamed, “Shoot me! Shoot me!” An officer ultimately had to employ a stun gun to subdue him.

Earlier, the police had reached out to Hernandez, appealing for his surrender, but he countered with threats of retaliation, professing to be armed and ready to fire at any approaching officer. The detention followed reports of his alleged plan to strike Brown University and the University of Connecticut.

A witness, believed to be his ex-girlfriend, reported to authorities that Hernandez had borrowed her vehicle on July 7, apparently for a court date, but instead, he used the opportunity to survey both campuses. On the day of his arrest, Hernandez reportedly made threatening posts on social media, with a specific mention of the University of Connecticut, his former college football turf.

Hernandez now faces charges of second-degree breach of peace and physical threats, with a $250,000 bond set.

This event marks Hernandez’s fourth run-in with the law this year, with past encounters involving leading police on a pursuit, hurling a bag with a brick and a threatening note at ESPN’s Bristol office, and missing a court hearing associated with the ESPN matter.

The Hernandez brothers, Dennis and Aaron, were former star high school football players in Bristol. Aaron’s promising career with the New England Patriots ceased in 2013 when he was detained and later convicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player. Serving a life sentence and facing allegations of involvement in other homicides, Aaron ended his life in prison in April 2017. In his book, “The Truth About Aaron: My Journey to Understand My Brother,” Dennis revealed a history of physical abuse by their father during their childhood.
