A five-year-old boy died in an accident in South Bend, Indiana, after his father accidentally ran over him with his car.
The fatal accident involving Jeremiah Holmes occurred on Sunday, July 23, in the parking lot of his apartment complex.
Following an emergency call reporting an unresponsive child around 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 22, St. Joseph County Police and other law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene.
The initial investigation identified the driver of the vehicle as Christopher Holmes, the 28-year-old father of the boy.
In spite of the immediate medical response and being taken to a local hospital, Jeremiah did not survive the accident. Christopher Holmes, physically unharmed but visibly distressed, fully cooperated with the police during their preliminary investigation. The probe into the incident is ongoing.
There is no confirmation regarding whether Christopher and Jeremiah resided together or if they lived in the apartment complex. No statement about prospective charges has been issued yet.
While early witnesses suggested a shooting occurred at the accident site, a news release later clarified that these reports were false.
To help the grieving family, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Markia Gee to raise funds for Jeremiah’s final rites. The family has expressed appreciation for the prayers and condolences and seeks further support as possible.
