First Steps in Biden Impeachment: Startling Allegations

Florida Republican Representative Greg Steube presented articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden on Friday, August 11.

Steube, a member of the Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives, bases his allegations on claims surrounding the President’s son, Hunter Biden.

The articles list four charges: abuse of power, obstruction of justice, fraud, and financial ties to drugs and prostitution. Steube alleges that the Biden family gained financially from President Biden’s official roles using unlawful methods, including bribery. He further alleges that Hunter and Joe Biden’s brother James offered access to Joe Biden during his Vice Presidency, a claim the White House refutes.

Additionally, Steube suggests the Biden campaign worked with the Justice Department to hinder a federal investigation into Hunter, referencing IRS whistleblower statements. He also mentions Hunter’s purported involvement in illegal drug activities and prostitution, connecting it to the Biden family’s finances.

The White House counters these allegations, stating there’s insufficient evidence to prove any wrongdoing by the President or his family.

Prominent Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have been reserved about the impeachment topic. However, Steube’s move indicates a heightened Republican focus on the Bidens’ international business activities.

Steube also proposed the Hunter Act, addressing a recent episode where cocaine was found in a White House secure area. This act seeks information about the incident and emphasizes the importance of congressional oversight to prevent similar future occurrences.

The impeachment discussion underscores existing tensions in Congress.
