A couple from Thorndale, Pennsylvania has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and other offenses following the death of their four-year-old son due to fentanyl exposure.

On August 11, Jason Moore, 36, and Amanda Moore, 35, surrendered themselves to law enforcement.

Caln Township Police received a 911 call on November 29, 2022, regarding an unresponsive child. At the scene, emergency crews found Jason Moore administering CPR to the child. The child was then transported to the Children’s Hospital in King of Prussia and was declared dead there.

The police reported that the couple had left their 13-year-old in charge of the younger siblings, aged three and four, the morning of the incident. The previous night, the four-year-old had symptoms of illness and was put to sleep on the couch. When later found unresponsive, the father was alerted.

During the investigation, certain items were found in the home, including a lollipop that tested positive for fentanyl on January 23, 2023. Similar findings were also confirmed in the child’s system. It came to light that Jason Moore had allegedly been using fentanyl in the residence and may have delayed calling the police in order to clean up. Both parents underwent hair sample tests, with Amanda Moore’s revealing traces of various drugs.

Both defendants were given a bail amount of $250,000 and are currently held in Chester County Prison. Their preliminary hearing was on August 23 in Downingtown.
