Husband Kills Wife With Fentanyl

A 48-year-old California man stands accused of murdering his wife, allegedly by poisoning her with fentanyl.

On January 12, 2023, Glennis Smith called 911 after he reported finding his wife, Jennifer Smith-Floyd, 49, unresponsive. The couple, married for five years, had been living separately for several months leading up to this event.

Emergency responders arrived at the residence, primarily occupied by Smith, but were unable to revive Jennifer Smith-Floyd, who was pronounced dead at the location.

Investigative findings indicated a lethal amount of fentanyl in her system. Authorities believe Smith had covertly given her the drug twice, once the previous day, which had led to her hospitalization, and then again on the day she died. Her symptoms were initially attributed to a food-related allergic reaction, according to Sgt. Jason Jimenez of the Elk Grove Police Department.

Following the incident, Smith allegedly ignited their stored travel trailer, suspected to be an act of insurance fraud.

Records show that Smith had a criminal history, having served a prison sentence for spousal rape involving another wife.

Jennifer Smith-Floyd is remembered by her family as a compassionate individual, an advocate for women’s rights, and a supportive figure. She is survived by her two children.
