In an early-morning altercation in Manhattan, a man was fatally slashed in the neck by an ex-convict during an argument, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, August 13, on Bayard Street near Baxter Street in Chinatown.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arguing with a man named Huang Yu Feng, 49, when the situation escalated. Feng allegedly used a knife to slash the victim’s neck. The injured victim was immediately rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities apprehended Feng at the scene. He has since been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Details surrounding the nature of the deadly altercation remain unknown. The circumstances leading up to the violent episode have not yet been disclosed by law enforcement.
According to sources close to the investigation, preliminary findings suggested that both people involved in the incident were homeless. However, police later revealed on Sunday that Feng had an address on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Online records show that Feng is no stranger to the criminal justice system. He served nearly two years in state prison from 2019 to 2021 for a first-degree attempted sexual abuse conviction and was released on parole, which expired the previous year. Feng also spent three months in state prison from October 2009 to January 2010 for a second-degree assault conviction. In total, the NYPD confirmed he had been arrested six times before Sunday’s incident.
The investigation into the deadly altercation is ongoing.
