Due to a shooting incident at a Fort Deposit funeral in central Alabama, a man was recently given a 10-year federal prison term for possessing a firearm and ammunition unlawfully.

On June 26, 2021, Gerald Dyron Little, 42, of Montgomery caused a chaotic scene at his uncle, James Gipson’s, funeral.

The situation reportedly escalated due to loud music from Little’s car.

Little left the service but returned during the graveside event. A subsequent altercation with family members led to Little using a firearm, causing the death of Jerry Gipson, the deceased’s brother.

Three other attendees sustained injuries.

Federal agencies reported that Little, previously convicted of a felony, had violated federal firearm possession laws. The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, linked Little to the crime through ballistic evidence. After serving his term, Little will have three years of supervised release.

Little faces additional state charges for murder and attempted murder.
