An Alabama woman was taken into custody on Friday, August 4, in connection with the shooting of her seven-year-old son at their Moulton residence, near Huntsville.
Shannon Renee Karr, aged 36, has been charged with capital murder. Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood reported that the child was shot twice with a handgun at close range. The event occurred in the mother’s bedroom, where the child was subsequently found and declared dead.
The police were notified of the incident at approximately 2:04 a.m. after receiving a call from Karr herself. Upon their arrival, Karr directed them to her bedroom. The coroner confirmed that only Karr and her son were present in the house at the time.
The child was a student at Danville Elementary School in Morgan County. Coroner Norwood mentioned the rarity of such incidents in the area. Shannon Karr is currently detained without bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 23, according to local media station WHNT.
