Student’s Fatal Collision with Pole on Bus Journey

A sudden accident on a bus claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl.

After leaving school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Fernanda Pacheco Ferraz leaned out of the bus window to wave to her friends on the sidewalk, resulting in a fatal collision between her head and a street pole.

The abrupt swerving of the bus, driven by a Nova Faol bus company employee of 13 years, to dodge oncoming traffic on a narrow street led to the unfortunate event.

When alerted to the tragic incident, the bus driver immediately stopped the bus and emergency personnel were called. When firefighters arrived to the scene, the young girl was already dead.

Following the incident, Nova Faol expressed their deep regret and affirmed their commitment to cooperating with the investigations.

The Seeduc education body expressed their condolences, temporarily halting classes to allow the community time to grieve. A ceremony to commemorate Ferraz took place at Trilha do Céu cemetery.
