Three dead bodies were discovered inside a parked vehicle near Jonathan Jennings School 109 in Indianapolis on Monday morning, August 14.
Local authorities were quick to respond to the scene. In an effort to protect the elementary school students from the distressing sight, school buses were directed away from the area.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has not yet provided details regarding the cause of death for the three men. Preliminary observations did not reveal any visible signs of trauma on the victims. Two of the three deceased individuals have been identified as Josue Alexander Lezama Vargas, 28 and Deyvir Bayron Serrano Rivera, 31.
Another individual was found alive in the same car and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. His current condition remains unknown.
On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that all three deaths are suspected to be due to drug overdoses.
Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) released a statement addressing the incident, ensuring the safety of the students. The statement mentioned, “IPS is aware of an incident this morning outside of Jonathan Jennings School 109. A car with several deceased individuals and one intoxicated person was found parked on the school’s lot.”
Both the authorities and the school district are working collaboratively to provide updates and ensure the well-being of the students.
