A US soldier died in a collision with a civilian semi-truck on Tuesday, August 1.
The soldier, who served with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, was traveling in a Stryker armored vehicle when the accident occurred near Tirschenreuth in Bavaria, Germany.
The collision took place as the military vehicle merged onto Autobahn 93. The soldier was immediately taken to a local hospital by civilian medical personnel, where the victim was pronounced dead.
No other American soldiers traveling in the vehicle were injured. The soldier’s identity is being withheld pending the next of kin notification.
The Army and Marine Corps reported 3,751 tactical vehicle accidents outside of combat, resulting in 123 soldiers’ deaths between 2010 and 2019.
