Wife Shoots and Kills Intruder Holding Husband at Gunpoint

A distressing event transpired in Salem, Indiana, on Monday, August 7. 

At approximately 6:30 pm, a male intruder, identified as 45-year-old Michael Chastain, made an uninvited entry into a couple’s yard.

Chastain subsequently engaged with the male homeowner, overpowering and subduing him with a firearm. The situation was observed by the homeowner’s wife, who, assessing the threat, fetched a handgun and confronted the intruder.

Sergeant John Davis of Indiana State Police detailed the event, explaining, “Upon seeing Chastain’s aggressive stance with a firearm directed at her husband, the wife acted, shooting Chastain.” Following the incident, medical personnel rushed Chastain to a nearby hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Background investigations reveal a prior relationship between Chastain and the couple’s daughter, though she was absent during the confrontation.

The driving factors behind Chastain’s intrusion are still under investigation. His past does include encounters with law enforcement. At this time, according to WLKY, the homeowners face no charges related to the incident.
