Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Multi-Car Crash

In an incident on Tuesday night, August 1, a wrong-way driver caused a collision on Maryland’s Interstate 270, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to nine others.

Numerous calls reached the police just before 11:45 pm, alerting them to a white Mercedes SUV driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 near Rockville, Maryland.

The driver continued onto the Capital Beltway (I-495), traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.

Maryland State Police reported on Wednesday morning, August 2, that Jayleen Hannor, a 23-year-old from Macon, Georgia, is suspected to have been driving the Mercedes involved in the collision with a Lexus and Nissan SUV near the area of I-495 at Maryland Route 355.

The accident occurred just north of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, situated about 22 miles northwest of Washington DC.

As a result of the crash, three children and two adults who were riding in the Nissan Pathfinder sustained injuries.

An adult female in the SUV was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The Lexus carried five adults, all of whom sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.

Hannor allegedly fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after and taken to the State Troopers barracks in Rockville, where charges are pending.
