Rutherfordton, North Carolina, became the site of a sad incident on Saturday, August 26.
Hunter Bishop, a 12-year-old boy, faced an attack by ten pit bulls while cycling on Grassy Knob Road.
Hunter’s mother, Amber Barnes, came across her injured son in a ditch after the incident. She observed that the attacking dogs seemed to be starving. Following the attack, Hunter was transported to Greenville Memorial Children’s Hospital and listed in critical condition.
To address the extent of his injuries, Hunter has already been through five surgical operations. Medical professionals encountered difficulty procuring enough healthy skin for grafting, emphasizing the severity of the injuries. He is expected to be in the hospital for several more weeks.
Amber Barnes conveyed her shock at the situation and her son’s survival to news outlets. Photos shared underline the enormity of Hunter’s sustained injuries. The responsibility now falls on the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, which is probing the incident. They are contemplating pressing charges against the dog owners.
Reacting to the event, the broader community has stepped up to support the family. Amber Barnes launched a GoFundMe campaign to manage the ensuing medical expenses. Derek Bishop, Hunter’s father, has communicated his appreciation and sought continued prayers through a Facebook post.
