2 Children Dead in Amish Buggy Collision

A pickup truck collided with the back of an Amish buggy, leading to the death of two young children, aged one and three.

The accident occurred around 2:20 pm on Wednesday, September 20, when a pickup truck driven by Charlene Kring, 26, struck the buggy. Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction along a county route in Alexandria, in upstate New York near the Canadian border, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a dire situation. The buggy held four children and two adults, all of whom required immediate medical attention. However, attempts to save the life of the one-year-old child proved unsuccessful. The three-year-old child succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a hospital.

The other four occupants of the buggy were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries, while Charlene Kring, the driver of the pickup truck, emerged from the collision unharmed, according to the authorities.

Due to the ages of the victims, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has refrained from disclosing their identities and has not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision.
