A 23-year-old man from Georgia is facing charges linked to the death of his two-year-old son.

According to sources, the East Point Police Department secured warrants for Artavious North on Friday, September 1. The charges include murder, concealing a death, and cruelty to children.

Authorities recovered a body, believed to be a two-year-old boy, from an East Point solid waste facility on August 23. J’Asiah Mitchell, 2, was identified as the deceased on Thursday, August 31.

The motive and the cause of death remain undisclosed by officials.

Previously, on August 16, Artavious North, 23, informed the police that J’Asiah had been taken during an armed robbery.

However, due to insufficient evidence supporting North’s statement, he was charged with making false claims and falsely reporting a crime. The current status of his plea or representation by an attorney remains uncertain.

After the disappearance of J’Asiah, police conducted searches near North’s home and drained a neighboring small lake.

East Point Police Department’s Chief, Shawn Buchanan, and Sgt. Ricki Michaud expressed relief over the case nearing closure at last Wednesday’s press conference.
