On Monday, September 18, in Columbus, Georgia, a father allegedly shot his four-year-old son in the head and the child’s mother in the chest.
The Columbus Police Department arrested 35-year-old Jacquese Antwan Walker on Tuesday, September 19, after a 36-hour search. Walker is now facing charges which include murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection with his son, Jacquese Walker Jr.’s, death. After his arrest, he was detained at Muscogee County Jail, where he awaits his court hearing.
Police officers arrived at the crime scene shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday. They found Marshama Bolden with multiple gunshot injuries. Her son was already declared dead. Bolden was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in critical condition.
Ernestine Freeman, the child’s grandmother and mother of Bolden, talked to WTVM. In the interview, she shared that she had noticed previous signs of abuse between Walker and her daughter. Freeman voiced her earlier concerns about the relationship, commenting, “He had been threatening her. I can’t do nothing about who my child loves.”
Bolden’s sister, Marjae Connerly, expressed strong sentiments against Walker, wanting him to face justice. Connerly has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses for Jacquese, Jr. She shared her observation about Walker’s resentment towards her sister’s happiness and pondered if it might be linked to the tragic event, stating, “Because that baby loved my sister.”
The event has left both the community and family reeling, with many wishing for justice and expressing their support for Bolden.
