A shooting incident on September 12 at St. Helena College & Career Academy in Greensburg, Louisiana resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident. The two injured students were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have taken a 14-year-old student into custody in relation to the shooting. The alleged shooter’s identity and the motive behind the incident have not been disclosed.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
The shooting occurred during the school’s dismissal time at around 3:30 pm. In the aftermath, a police presence was observed on the school premises.
St. Helena College & Career Academy is located in Louisiana, around an hour from Baton Rouge.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards gave his condolences and encouraged lawmakers to help curb gun violence.
