A 42-year-old man was fatally shot after intruders forcibly entered his home on Wednesday, August 30 and a 10-month-old baby was abducted.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm at the intersection of Jayne Avenue and Willaman Street in Jackson, Mississippi.
Jackson police explained that a woman and three masked men invaded the home by kicking in the back door, committed robbery, and abducted a 10-month-old baby at gunpoint after one of the men allegedly shot the male resident.
The woman, identified as Jazmyn Johnson, who according to the Hinds County Detention Center is only 18, was later apprehended at a gas station, where the baby was also safely recovered. It emerged that Johnson is the biological mother of the baby. The deceased man was dating Johnson’s mother, (the baby’s grandmother) who was present during the intrusion and had full custody of the child.
Johnson faces multiple charges, including capital murder, armed robbery, burglary, and kidnapping. She has been denied bond for the murder charge, with an additional $1.1 million set for the other felonies. Meanwhile, the three male accomplices remain at large.
Local residents expressed concern over the increasing violent incidents in the area.
