On Thursday, August 31, an incident occurred on Highway 287 near Owl Canyon, just north of Fort Collins, Colorado.
According to a statement released by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, an SUV with masked occupants deliberately pulled in front of a Kia Sedona van around 4:50 pm, forcing it to a halt.
Without warning, the people inside the SUV began firing at the stationary van. In an attempt to escape the assailants, the van’s driver sped off but lost control, causing the vehicle to crash and subsequently catch fire.
All eight passengers inside the Kia were rescued with non-life-threatening injuries. The people in the SUV left the scene before law enforcement and rescue teams arrived.
Footage of the burnt van was captured and broadcast by a KDVR helicopter.
Police are investigating the incident and are considering the motives of road rage or attempted robbery.
