Kevin Prasad, a 37-year-old former security officer at San Francisco International Airport, was convicted last week of first-degree murder and lying in wait, according to an announcement from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. The charges relate to the April 2018 killing of Mark Mangaccat.

Reports indicate that for several months, Prasad had tried to persuade a female co-worker, Thandar Seinn, at the airport to end her relationship with Mangaccat, 31, and begin a romantic relationship with him. Despite his persistent attempts, the co-worker continuously declined his advances. It is noted that the co-worker and Mangaccat had a child together.

On April 25, 2018, Mangaccat came to the airport to pick up his girlfriend on her last day of work. The couple were planning to move to Las Vegas with their three-year-old daughter. Prasad and Donovan Rivera, identified in reports as an accomplice, followed them from the airport. When the couple reached their home in Daly City, Prasad fired multiple rounds at Mangaccat into his car from a close distance, leading to his death. Seinn was unharmed.

After the incident, both Prasad and Rivera fled the scene. Rivera, believed to have been the driver during the incident, is also facing criminal charges connected to Mangaccat’s death.

The conviction of Prasad comes as the culmination of a lengthy legal process, providing some clarity to the events surrounding that day in 2018.
