Woman Kills Boyfriend in Reckless Gunplay

A 26-year-old woman was arrested in Naples, Florida last week on charges of manslaughter with a firearm.

Authorities allege that Brittany Anne Brothers fatally shot her boyfriend during a reckless game involving guns in her apartment.

On September 2, 2023, a 911 call from Brothers in distress alerted the police to the incident. She reported that her boyfriend had been shot and needed urgent help. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the victim on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, and Brothers was with him, visibly upset.

During a voluntary interview with detectives, Brothers made statements that raised suspicion. While she didn’t directly admit to shooting her boyfriend, she hinted at her involvement in the incident, expressing remorse and concern about her boyfriend’s condition.

Brothers mentioned that she and her boyfriend had played a dangerous game in the past, involving pointing guns at each other. She claimed that during this incident, her boyfriend had accidentally pulled the trigger, nearly firing the weapon.

Further investigation uncovered a spent shell casing under the bed, matching the ammunition used in Brothers’ Glock handgun. Hospital personnel later reported that the victim had succumbed to his injuries on September 6, and the autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the head, ruled as a homicide.

Based on the evidence, Brothers’ statements, and firearm analysis, authorities believe that her reckless involvement with firearms led to her boyfriend’s tragic death. Brothers was arrested in Collier County, Florida and is currently in custody, facing charges in Broward County.
