18-Year-Old Dies in Collision With Concrete Beam

On September 28, in the parking garage of West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada, an unfortunate event led to the loss of a young life. An 18-year-old male passenger in a Toyota Camry sedan stood up through the vehicle’s sunroof. While the car was moving under a ramp, he struck his head on a concrete beam overhead, leading to severe injuries.

Upon receiving a call around 1:45 pm, the Edmonton Police Service arrived at the scene. They found the teenager in a critical state. After a swift assessment, the police transported the injured young man to the nearest medical facility. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

At the time of the incident, the Toyota Camry sedan had two other occupants – a 17-year-old male who was driving and a 15-year-old female passenger. Both of them were unharmed and are currently cooperating with the police to provide more details about the accident.

The Edmonton Police Service’s Major Collision Investigations Section has taken up the task of understanding the cause and sequence of events. Preliminary reports have indicated that neither speed nor impairment played a role in the unfortunate incident. To aid their investigation, the authorities are asking witnesses or those with relevant dashcam footage to step forward and assist.
