Argument at Baby Shower Leads to Fatal Outcome in Detroit

On Sunday, October 15, at a house on Edmore Street in Detroit, Michigan’s, east side, a baby shower turned deadly when an argument between two women escalated into a fatal shooting.

Phebe Williams, 53, was at her niece’s baby shower when she became involved in an argument with another woman. The conflict arose from accusations the latter had previously leveled against one of Williams’ sons.

The friction between the two women was not new. In the days leading up to the baby shower, this woman had approached a local police station, making claims of a crime committed by Williams’ son.

The atmosphere became even more tense at the baby shower when the accusing woman, who wasn’t on the guest list, appeared and confronted Williams. Reports indicate that Williams struck the woman during the confrontation. In a swift response, the woman drew a gun and shot Williams, taking her life in front of all the guests.

In the aftermath of the incident, the shooter made her way to Detroit police 9th Precinct, presumably to turn herself in. In the parking lot she encountered a car driven by Williams’ son, who had followed her. He sped up and hit her. Both were taken into police custody, with the woman also receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

In the wake of the incident, attendees and relatives were left in a state of shock. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with Williams’ funeral costs. The online fundraiser describes Williams as someone who brought warmth and positivity to those she knew. She is survived by two sons and three grandchildren.
