A massive explosion near Tashkent International airport in Uzbekistan on Thursday, September 28 led to one fatality and many injured.
Reports from local authorities have confirmed the death of a teenage boy due to a window frame, launched by the blast, falling on him.
Additionally, 162 people were injured by the blast, out of which 24 had to be taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other 138 received treatment.
The magnitude of the explosion at a warehouse started a fire and shattered nearby apartment complex windows. Despite its occurrence near Tashkent’s airport, no notable problems were encountered in flight scheduling.
Visual reports of the incident on social media portrayed flames shooting into the sky and thick smoke billowing above a warehouse near the airport.
While the specific cause of the explosion is still being investigated, an investigation laboratory was quickly established at the site by the emergency ministry, aiding the efforts to delve into the incident’s details. Their quick response prevented the fire from spreading.
Local authorities, in conjunction with other relevant agencies, are focused on uncovering the specifics of the explosion and also ensuring the safety and well-being of Tashkent’s residents.
