Nichole Coats, a model, aged 32, was found dead in her apartment located in the downtown Los Angeles area on September 10, 2023.
Following an autopsy, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported that the cause of death was an overdose resulting from the combined intake of cocaine and ethanol. They ruled her death as accidental. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is still active.
Coats’ lifeless body was found by her father and aunt. They decided to check on her after days without any contact. However, what they discovered was alarming. As stated by Coats’ aunt, her body was found in a perplexing position, with one of her legs raised, resembling a kick. To further intensify the family’s concerns, there were visible bloodstains on her bed.
The city’s concerns grew when, two days after Coats was found, another model, Maleesa Mooney, 31, was discovered dead in her own downtown apartment. Due to signs pointing towards violence, her death has been investigated as a potential homicide.
Rumors began to swirl about a potential link between the two tragic events given their proximity in time and location. However, the Los Angeles Police Department, after looking into both cases, stated that there’s no evidence indicating a connection. This is in line with the findings of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, who confirmed Coats’ death as an accidental overdose caused by the mix of cocaine and ethanol.
Mixing alcohol and cocaine can lead to severe consequences. Such a combination can produce toxic effects on the heart, thereby escalating the likelihood of a fatal overdose. This has been underscored by entities like the American Addiction Centers, which warn the public of the associated risks.
