An Ohio mother and her teenage daughter have been indicted for the death of an infant in Hilliard, Ohio, last month.
The incident occurred on September 20, 2023 when an infant was discovered inside a vehicle on their property, according to the Hilliard Division of Police.
The individuals in question, Basma Abdul Karim Alkelezli, 36, of Hilliard, and Hanan Ahmad Al Jabouli, 19, of Dublin, face multiple charges. Among these are counts of murder, child endangerment, and strangulation.
Al Jabouli made a 911 call, reporting her mother was unresponsive. Upon arrival, medics found Alkelezli bleeding, a condition they deduced resulted from childbirth. However, they did not locate the infant, prompting them to alert the police.
Subsequent investigations uncovered allegations suggesting that Al Jabouli had acted under her mother’s instructions during the incident.
Court documents indicate that Alkelezli directed her daughter to dispose of a trash bag in which she had placed her newborn son. Authorities later located this bag inside a five-gallon bucket in the trunk of a car in the backyard.
The owner of the vehicle remains unidentified. Alkelezli faces eight charges, including murder, child endangerment, suffocation, and corpse abuse, as detailed in the Franklin County court records. Similarly, Al Jabouli faces charges that largely mirror those of her mother’s, but with the added accusations of obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
