Lizzie Cundy, a former friend of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has recently expressed concerns over the portrayal of the royal couple in media.
Her remarks follow an episode of the popular cartoon series “Family Guy,” which satirized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix.
In the controversial episode, animated versions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were seen lounging by a pool. The butler offered the Prince envelopes containing significant checks from their notable Netflix agreement for “No one knows what…”, hinting at the lack of output produced. Markle was also depicted as being notified to execute a hefty $250,000 sponsored post for the fast-food chain, Del Taco.
Expressing her views on the animated satire, Cundy described the representation of the royal couple as “cruel” and argued that it has contributed to their image as “laughingstocks.” Taking it a step further, she believes that King Charles should intervene not only to address such portrayals but also to prevent Meghan Markle from publishing potential memoirs or embarking on any other projects that might further invite media scrutiny.
The reaction to the “Family Guy” episode has been mixed. While some have criticized it as “tasteless and unfunny” and part of a larger narrative against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since their exit from royal duties, others argue that satire should be instantly recognizable and taken lightly.
Lizzie Cundy’s sentiments resonate with a portion of the public that feels the Sussexes have been overly vocal about their grievances. Her words suggest that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a career from their complaints, further emphasizing their portrayal in media as subjects of ridicule.
Nevertheless, since stepping back from senior royal responsibilities in 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been under the spotlight, with every move dissected and discussed by the media. Their Netflix deal, valued at $100 million, remains one of the most talked-about aspects of their post-royal journey. Yet, the question of how much content they’ve provided for the streaming giant remains a point of intrigue for many.
Despite diverse opinions, it remains to be seen if King Charles will indeed intervene in the matter and if there are any substantial projects, like the rumored memoir, in the pipeline for the Duchess of Sussex.
