Tragic Shooting in North Phoenix: Two Lives Lost

On the early morning of October 8, 2023 in north Phoenix, 19-year-old Daniel Windus shot his 54-year-old father inside their home.

Directly after this event, Daniel ended his own life outside near a car.

The Phoenix Police Department was alerted to the situation by a 911 call placed by a visibly upset woman. This woman was later identified as Mrs. Windus, the wife of the deceased, Preston Windus.

She communicated to the 911 operators her suspicion that their son, Daniel, had shot her husband. When officers arrived, they found Daniel in a vehicle in the home’s driveway. She further confirmed to the officers about her husband’s location inside the house and his state after the gunshot.

When officers arrived, Mrs. Windus’s mention, during the 911 call, of “possible hazards” inside the house resulted in a more cautious approach by the police. The potential for danger led to the deployment of a bomb squad and the evacuation of adjacent homes. Upon inspection, however, no dangerous substances or devices were identified within the residence.

With the investigation currently underway, officials are asking anyone with significant details to provide it. Their contributions could offer insight into the events leading up to the incident.
