Donald Trump stormed out of the courtroom during his civil fraud trial in New York City following testimony from his ex-attorney and “fixer,” Michael Cohen. The former president’s trial has grabbed media attention and is currently in its fourth week.
Michael Cohen testified that Trump inflated asset valuations for financial gains. Trump’s defense team tried to discredit Cohen due to his past lies under oath and tax evasion. Cohen, however, stood by his current statements, revealing that Trump’s financial records were manipulated to show a higher net worth.
Reacting to Cohen’s testimony, Trump abruptly left the courtroom and spoke to the press. He claimed victory in the trial based on Cohen’s words but that conclusion was refuted by Judge Arthur Engoron. One of Trump’s attorneys had asked the judge to declare a verdict in the trial, but the judge replied, “Absolutely denied,” saying that there is evidence “all over the place” supporting the New York Attorney General James’ $250 million lawsuit against Trump, three of his children and the Trump Organization.
Trump also faced penalties during the trial for violating a gag order, being fined twice, with the latest fine being $10,000 for comments about the judge’s law clerk.
The trial shines light on Trump’s business practices and alleged fraudulent behaviors. After leaving court, Trump expressed his views on social media, especially targeting Cohen. The trial is a significant legal challenge for Trump, and the outcome remains uncertain due to compelling arguments from both sides.
