On November 21, a road accident occurred on Route 13 in Accomack County, Virginia, claiming the lives of a 69-year-old man and his 17-year-old daughter.

The crash involved their vehicle, a 2021 Mazda sedan, and a Freightliner box truck.

According to the Virginia State Police, the incident occurred around 4:15 pm at the intersection of Lankford Highway and Annis Lane.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Augusto Santos Aguilar, who was driving the Mazda, veered into the southbound lane for unknown reasons, resulting in a head-on collision with the box truck.

The impact of the collision was catastrophic. Alyssa Marie Aguilar, who was traveling with her father from Florida to Maryland to visit family, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her father, Augusto, later died from his injuries at a local hospital. Maria Aguilar, Augusto’s wife, was also in the vehicle during the crash. She survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner box truck, a 63-year-old man identified as Ervin Jose Mizriky of Henrico,  sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

No charges have been filed in relation to this accident, as per the Virginia State Police’s latest reports.

The Aguilar family, residents of Tampa, Florida, were traveling northbound on Route 13 at the time of the accident. The Mazda CX-30, driven by Augusto Aguilar, inexplicably crossed the center line, leading to the tragic collision.

The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash to determine the exact cause.

The community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Augusto and Alyssa Aguilar, extending sympathies to their family.
