On Saturday, November 11, 2023, an 86-year-old Florida resident was killed in a fatal accident in the parking lot of R Bar in Treasure Island, Florida.
The incident occurred when Thomas McKeown was run over several times by a pickup truck, driven by his own son, 61-year-old Mark McKeown.
Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene just after 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a 2019 black Dodge Ram truck, which belonged to Mark McKeown, backed into a parking space in the lot.
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations, Thomas McKeown was walking towards the truck when he appeared to fall down in front of it. The truck, driven by his son, began to move, running over McKeown and dragging him. The vehicle then reversed and moved forward multiple times, hitting Thomas each time before fleeing the scene.
Thomas McKeown was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Mark McKeown was arrested by law enforcement officers, after appearing on foot in the parking lot and denying knowing anything about the accident, and has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He’s being held on a bond of $50,000.
Investigators have not yet established a motive for the incident and are exploring all possible angles, including the possibility of impairment on the part of the driver.
